Expert Positioning & Book Publicity for Dr. Marion Orr

Coriolis Company developed and executed a national multicultural communications campaign for Marion Orr, a political scientist and the inaugural Frederick Lippitt Professor of Public Policy at Brown University, and his book, House of Diggs: The Rise and Fall of America’s Most Consequential Black Congressman, Charles C. Diggs Jr. (University of North Carolina Press, September 2025). The first biography of Congressman Diggs, the book restores one of the most consequential Black federal legislators in U.S. history to the national narrative. Diggs helped desegregate U.S. airports, recognized Emmett Till’s life, founded the Congressional Black Caucus, and advanced numerous pieces of civil rights legislation. Yet his contributions have often been overshadowed by the mail fraud conviction that ended his congressional career. The campaign therefore required more than conventional book publicity. Coriolis needed to introduce Diggs’s story to mainstream, Black, academic, political, literary, and civic audiences while communicating the full complexity of his legacy. The strategy had to address his conviction honestly without allowing it to erase his transformative contributions to Black political representation and civil rights. The campaign also supported an important professional transition for Dr. Orr. Although he had reached the height of his academic career and published seven previous books, his public visibility had not reflected the significance of his scholarship. He wanted to become a thought leader among biographers of significant Black figures, and we worked to cement his role as a public intellectual.
