As a Director of Product Marketing at Everspin Technologies, I am submitting the PERSYST™ High-Reliability MRAM Initiative. This strategic initiative focuses on the commercialization and expansion of the EMxxLX HR (High-Reliability) series, a breakthrough in persistent memory designed for the most uncompromising environments on Earth and beyond. The Objective The primary objective of this project was to bridge the "Reliability Gap" in mission-critical embedded systems. Traditional non-volatile memories, like NOR Flash, suffer from slow write speeds and wear-out over time, while volatile SRAM requires bulky batteries or capacitors to prevent data loss. Everspin set out to provide a unified, "universal" memory solution that offers SRAM-like performance with permanent data retention, specifically qualified for the extreme rigors of Aerospace, Defense, and Automotive Grade 1 applications. Why It Is Significant & Innovative The PERSYST™ initiative is transformative because it successfully scales Spin-Transfer Torque MRAM (STT-MRAM) into densities and reliability ratings previously thought impossible for this technology. • Extreme Environmental Resilience: The EMxxLX HR family is the first of its kind to achieve AEC-Q100 Grade 1 qualification, supporting a temperature range from -40°C to +125°C. This ensures 10-year data retention even at peak thermal stress, a feat that traditional Flash cannot reliably match. • Operational Disruption: With up to 400MB/s bandwidth via an xSPI interface, these devices enable real-time data logging and instant-on capability without the risk of "write-interruption" data loss. • Radiation Immunity: In collaboration with NASA and Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), the 64Mb device demonstrated zero single-event latch-ups (SEL) during independent radiation testing. By unifying code storage and data memory into a single, high-speed, indestructible chip, Everspin has moved MRAM from a niche alternative to the essential backbone of the next generation of autonomous vehicles and deep-space exploration.
